Upload the Adsense CPC It is possible, but it is not a simple task.

Mainly because 90% of the success is going to mark the sector of the niche in which you move and the country to which you are going, and the rest your ability to generate content and attract traffic.

In this article, I will explain how I do it and the technique I follow step by step.

How to increase Adsense CPC

First of all, you should know how the CPC that you finally charge is set when a user clicks on your ads:

  1. Your website requests ads based on available spaces
  2. Adsense launches an auction among all advertisers (contextual, personalized and non-personalized)
  3. The advertiser with the highest maximum bid wins but pays 1 cent more than the previous one by the proportional part of ads that you can display the block.
  4. You earn 68% of that final price

That is, you will never charge the CPC indicated by tools such as the Keyword Planner and the like, since that only shows the maximum bid that Google Ads suggests for the advertiser to win the auction, and it is only an estimate that many Sometimes it does not correspond to reality.

This is the simplified version, but I recommend that study the official explanation well because it is much more complex.

1- Use recommended ad sizes

The key is the large-sized ads, but not for their visibility, but for another much more important reason:

They can show ads of other similar sizes, which increases the advertising pressure and, therefore, offers more possibilities to increase the Adsense CPC.

For example, a 336 × 280 ad may show ads of 300 × 300, 300 × 250 and 250 × 250 (and any other smaller size) that are the most configured by advertisers.

2- Key ad locations

The higher the better.

There’s no more.

Adsense introduced Active View as a new type of bid, and although for now it is a minority, I have more than proven that the ads offer a higher CPC the higher they appear within the page (on display and depending on the niche, of course).

So you just have to follow a pattern that matches the layout of your content and allows you to place an ad every 2-3 paragraphs, under the headings and key elements that attract the reader’s attention.

3- Transactional content

The mother of the lamb.

Depending on the niche it will be more or less difficult to integrate it, but it is the one that really attracts advertisers and the one that will precisely allow you to upload the Adsense CPC much more than your informational content allows.

Taking up the first point, advertisers choose keywords for their ads that help them get conversions on their websites: registrations, sales, downloads … whatever.

Well, we usually focus on keywords of high search volume, very generic and with little commercial value.

This is correct at the beginning when we want to gain visibility quickly and start to drive traffic through the web.

But it is a fatal mistake to monetize with Adsense.

You must focus on those keywords that respond to the purchase intentions of the end-user of the advertisers that are displayed on your website.

4- Relationship between informational and transactional content

What CPC do you analyze in Adsense reports ?:

  • The one in the account in general
  • The one of each web
  • The one of each URL
  • The one in each ad unit

If you have chosen the last two options you are on the right track, and I explain why.

Generally, we all look at the CPC in the Adsense app or website of the current day/month and say: today it has uploaded me, today it has lowered me, etc.

But this is a mistake because that CPC is the average generated by all your websites and page views, without isolating the effect of traffic peaks and the CTR from all of them.

Did you know…?: The CPC that shows the Adsense app of the link blocks takes into account all the impressions, both of the intermediate pages and of the actual ads. For this reason, you should dive into the reports and review only the CPC of the clicks tab. You will see it clearer in this video:

So, the only reliable way is focusing on the CPC of each ad unit and, at most, of each URL that we have configured as a tracking criterion.

Now, the more transactional content we have and receive traffic from it, the better CPC we will have; but it is also possible to increase the CPC reducing informational content with a worse performance of our website.

Obviously in absolute numbers, we will earn less money, but proportionally We will earn much more with fewer visits.

If you apply this strategy from the beginning, in the long term your CPC will be much higher by far.

5- Improve positioning

As you have already seen in the article that linked above, the better positions, the more attractive you will be to advertisers.

It is more than proven.

For this you can help the tests I did with Enlazalia, Enlazator or SerpTrade.

Secondary techniques to improve Adsense CPC

Until now everything seen is the only way effective, real and reliable of uploading the Adsense CPC.

The rest is secondary that can also help optimize advertising pressure.

Any other you do not see in this post is directly lie or go against policies from Adsense:
I honestly thought the opposite, but after conducting tests advised by an Adsense account manager, I have to confirm that unlocking categories improved the CPC.

In the end, the more advertisers there are bidding (although they do not have to do with the subject) higher advertiser density is concentrated, which will inevitably increase the CPC of bids in the ad auction.

The same happened when you could specify image and text ads in the display ads (in May 2019 they are all like that).

According to the niche, the CPC could upload more in-text ads than in display ads, or vice versa. But in the end, you were eliminating half of the advertisers that could bid for space and, therefore, further increase the Adsense CPC.

Disable automatic ads

Not that they are bad, but a considerable increase in impressions will reduce the overall CTR and, therefore, the average of your CPC.

The more controlled your ads, the better.

Related to the previous one, this takes it with tweezers.

After the appearance of automatic ads, the rules of the game have changed a lot with the entry of higher bids for CPM, which inevitably affects those of CPC.

In any case, if you detect that 90% of your income comes from the first 4-5 banners, it makes perfect sense to remove the rest to reduce saturation and reduce the loading time of the web.

Boost items with better CPC

Link them from the areas of your website with more traffic, and promote them regularly in social networks, forums, and email marketing.

The more visitors come to them, the more the average CPC will rise of the entire page, but of course, this is simply a rule of three.

As with the reduction of information content, in total figures, you will earn less, but proportionally much more to the effort in writing.

Analyze advertiser campaigns in your sector

Simply make a list of the advertisers you see in your ads, and then analyze them one by one.

Check the keywords they use and the recommended bids they have associated.

With that, you can get an idea of ​​who is really interesting to keep, and which ones to discard if your ads are not relevant, since you can see the history of creatives and text ads They have in their campaigns.

Create URL tracking criteria

Simply include all URLs in the URL tracking criteria section of your Adsense panel to start collecting data.

After a month, you can check their individual reports to detect those that throw a best RPM taking into account your CTR and CPC.

Position in countries with high CPC

I leave this to the end because it obviously depends on the country for which you start your project, but you can always generate new targeted content to them.

New options to Increase Adsense CPC

I have not tried these techniques thoroughly yet because they are options that would alter the continuous experiments I perform.

Ad Balance

This feature allows Adsense not to print your display blocks if it considers that they will have a lower than average RPM.

CPC may increase, but total revenue will fall for the same reason that if we reduce the information pages, the number of ads placed manually or deactivate the automatic ones.

This option is found in Ads> Ad balance

For the initial tests I did and the experience of students in my course, the income reduction is usually much lower than what it indicates when you reduce the impression of ads more than 80%.

Automatic experiments

Adsense can run automatic experiments that can make CPC dance constantly.

For now, I have them disabled to prevent them from interfering with my tests.

Optimize ad sizes automatically

I have tried this option and my configuration has always exceeded those offered by this system, since I use advanced rules to ensure the best ads in my niches.

Once activated, Adsense creates two custom tracking criteria so you can compare performance with separate reports:

Note: The revenue is higher because I received many more clicks on the optimized in a day in which no optimized ads were printed, casually the € 5 difference, so the performance is very even if we do not take it into account. Anyway, I recommend you try it once you have finished optimizing your ads manually.

The downside of this option is that you can’t know which blocks you have optimized while active

I leave this alternative for last, since it means work with external networks to Adsense that show Google ads.

Ad Exchange is Google partners that allow you to monetize your website with the Google Ads network ads and many others They are not part of it.

Theoretically, this allows you to obtain a higher RPM, since you access advertisers that are not available on the Adsense network, which Increase advertiser density, the hardness of bids and, therefore, the final CPC.

However, these platforms charge under commission (revenue sharing) that can range between 10 and 30%, which should greatly improve revenue to be really an interesting option.

I tried RedMas.com once, but there are many others. These are the best known:

  • Ezoic
  • MonetizeMore

Double Click For Publishers is the ad server from Google itself that allows you to manage your own ad campaigns and make them compete with your Adsense account.

It is quite complicated to manage, but if you have high traffic websites and enough direct clients, it can be a very good option to upload the CPC.

As it is a system that you control 100%, you can establish CPC floors and ceilings on line items, so that Adsense ads only jump when their bids exceed those you set in your inventory.

Myths about CPC

I reserve this section for the ideas that circulate on the Internet and that are not true:

  • The average CPC of an account affects that of the websites that are added to it (each website has its own performance that does not affect the rest at all)
  • Having low CPC websites negatively influences the rest of high CPC websites.
  • Organic traffic generates higher CPCs than direct traffic, social networks, and referral.
